Many people often dream of losing weight using the safest methods possible. This makes them turn to diets and weight loss programs that they hope will help them achieve results in their weight loss endeavors. Unfortunately, research has shown that as much as weight loss diets can be effective in helping people lose weight, they also have a high number of side effects that could prove fatal is left unaddressed. Some of the most notable side effects that are linked to weight loss diets such as the very low calorie diets include fatigue, nausea and constipation. Other side effects which have been linked to these diets include:

Gallstones
However, with the passage of time, these usually reduce making it possible for the patients to complete their diet programs. The other side effects that are usually associated with weight loss diets include gallstone. Gallstones are prevalent in people that use weight loss programs to manage obesity. However, with the right kind of medical treatment, they can be managed and prevented during the weight loss program.

Relentless cravings
Many people often suffer from relentless cravings for products such as cheesecake and peanut butter when they are on weight loss diets. However, the cravings subside within a few days from the day when they were first taken.

Mood swings
Research has shown that weight loss diets help supply the body with energy. They also lead to an increase in the production of a substance known as serotonin which has been linked to increased mood swings in individuals on such diets.

Heavy periods in women
Weight loss diets lead to an increase in the amount of body fats. Consequently, the fats lead to an increase in the production of a hormone known as estrogen which in turn makes women’s period to be heavier than usual.

Bad breath
Strange as it may sound, weight loss diet drugs can cause you to have bad breaths. This is because diet drugs reduce the intake of carbohydrates in your body. When this happens, fatty acids known as ketones are produced in the body. These are burned up through a process known as ketosis. The ketones smell like acetone that is used in nail polish remover. No surprise then that your mouth will smell awful when you are taking weight loss diet drugs.

Low sexual performance
Some diet drugs can cause you to experience a reduction in libido. This is because most drugs that are used during diets contain chemical substances that affect the hormones that are usually associated with high sexual performance.
Consequently, the low levels of hormones cause a disruption in orgasm for both men and women.

Diabetes
Weight loss diets that involve use of drugs such as hoodia can cause diabetes. This is because like most diet drugs used in weight loss programs, hoodia diet drugs affect the neurotransmitters that are channeled to our brains. This leads to an increase in appetite and ultimately to the increase in the production of blood sugar which is associated with diabetes. However, this can be checked by ensuring that you take the diet drug in recommended doses and also by consulting your doctor before taking the weight loss diet drugs.
