Common Weight Loss Obstacles and How To Overcome Them

| July 30, 2009 | 0 Comments

You’ve said it over and over again. I want to lose weight. I want to be thin. I want to fit into that sexy bikini just in time for summer. But one, two, three months after, you still find yourself stuck in the same weight. In the same body. Like most dieters and people who have promised to finally lose weight, you have found yourself in a tight spot where you find your mind saying go, but still without results from your body. Here are some common weight loss obstacles that may derail you from losing weight. Read on.

Obstacle One: Lack of Time
True, busy times will always equal to busy schedules. But if you can’t squeeze in an hour long gym session (plus time traveling to the gym), that doesn’t mean that you can’t exercise at all. You can squeeze in small five minute exercises within breaks a few times a day.
Even the most common things, like walking all across the parking lot, using the stairs to your office or playing with your kids even for five minutes each day can all amount to exercise. Once you have time for recreational activities, try those that are not sedentary (i.e. watching a movie), but try your hand at active pursuits like a game of bowling, dancing, playing a game of ball at the park.

Obstacle Two: Super Expectations
Sure, it’s wonderful to imagine yourself in that black monokini, but if you’re constantly pushing yourself and expecting that you can wear it right away next week, then you’re probably setting your expectations too high. Setting expectations that are more than you can achieve in reality will leave you disappointed, and will cause frustrations that may lead you to stray from your exercise efforts and healthy habits.
Make sure that you set realistic expectations that you can meet, and remember that you will hit weight loss plateaus at some point, occasionally.

Obstacle Three: Temptations
Keep in mind that each and everyday, you will be faced with temptations, like those special events, holiday parties, weddings and the like. You have to understand that the key to healthy weight loss is not to deprive yourself of something tempting as this leads to frustration. Face temptations with an action plan so that you won’t lose control once you get face to face with them.

Obstacle Four: Lack of Priority
It’s easy to get lost when things move real fast and busy, that’s why its important to keep Keep exercise and weight loss top priority. Find enough time in your schedule to exercise and eat healthy meals. If you can’t make healthy food for yourself everyday, find time during the weekends or at night to create healthy meals that you can put in the fridge and heat when you need to grab a bite.
You may have met some of this obstacles while trying to lose weight, or you may still be battling with these right now. Remember that these obstacles are normal and that most people meet them along the way, and can simply be remedied by a little preparation and alteration on your part.
