Exercise and Weight Loss Myths Debunked

Weight loss, just like any other regimen and perhaps any other thing in this world, has its own line of useless tales and myths that are more often believed than the facts. Here are some time – wasting myths, and not to mention dangerous ones involving weight loss.

You Can Burn More Fat By Exercising on An Empty Stomach
If going to school and sitting inside the classroom with an empty stomach already makes you weak, imagine what you’d be doing to your body if you exercised on an empty stomach. But aside from this, myth number one is completely untrue. Effectively losing weight means burning the right total amount of calories in a day, and not when or how they are burned.

After You Stop Exercising, Your Muscles Will Turn Into Fat
This, again, is untrue. Your muscles and fats are two completely different types of tissues, and one cannot be converted into the other. Once you stop training, your muscles will simply shrink in size, but not disappear. Once you stop training and exercising, you stop burning calories, and these calories will be deposited as fats.

Drinking Water While Exercising Will Give You Cramps
If you drink liters of icy, cold water all at once while exercising, you will probably get cramps. This is why it is very important to drink moderate amounts of water before, during and right after exercising in order to replace any fluids that you’ve lost.

As Long As I Exercise, I Can Eat Everything I Want and Still Lose Weight
Even if you exercise regularly, you still need to burn more calories than what you consume – this means that you have to match your calorie burning activities with how much calories you eat. While you can eat anything you like, you will not be able to lose weight if you eat in excessive amounts. Control is key, so try eating smaller amounts. Or if you can’t stop eating, increase your physical activity each day in order to burn off those calories.

Skipping Meals Help Me Lose Weight
Scientific studies show that people who skip meals, especially breakfast, and eat fewer times during the day are usually heavier than people who regularly have breakfast and eat four to five times a day. This is mostly because people who skip breakfast ten to feel more hungry during lunch, and will compensate by eating more than what is normal. Eating small meals all throughout the day helps people control their appetite and curbs the need to overeat.

Exercising More Is Better
Each exercise session that a person goes through is beneficial, but more exercise does not always equal to better. This depends on what is being tried to achieved, and the level and frequency that is required to achieve those results.

Here are just a few of the many myths that surround exercise and weight loss. Remember that people always have something to say about everything, and the media constantly supplies us with numerous advice. Before taking each and every advice seriously, it is important to research and verify if they are indeed true, lest you follow advice that does not do anything to your weight loss endeavor, and may even set you back for a long time.
