Change your lifestyle
Changing your lifestyle is probably the most effective way of maintaining your weight after losing weight. If you undergo surgery to remove the extra fat and you go back to your earlier way, you will get all the weight back very fast. In most cases, people end up gaining more weight than thy lost. If you were dieting and you lose a considerable amount of weight, your body will know that it is not at equilibrium and it will try to accumulate as much fat as possible as it seeks to go back to equilibrium. This means that you must be very careful about the food you ingest. To maintain your weight, the food should be low in calories and you should do exercises to burn any calories. If you lost weight through exercising, you should continue with some level of exercising after your training regime is over. Same applies for if you were using weight loss drugs and supplements.

Get others to help
You should get your family, friends and colleagues to help in your endeavor to maintain your new weight. As far as family is concerned, they can help in accepting the new, low calorie food that you are taking and by giving your psychological support. Your friends can come in handy when you are exercising and they can help you with your routines or join you in your jogs, in the gym, etc. Your colleagues can help by making sure there is diet soda in the soda machine, that there is healthy food available during lunch time and generally by encouraging you and making the environment conducive for maintaining your new weight.

Set realistic weight loss goals
If you set goals that are too hard for you, you will not get the desired results. These goals should be a weight loss of 1 to 2 pound per week. If you set goals that are too high, you will get tired of the weight loss campaign if you don’t meet them. You also run the risk of over-exerting yourself and this may cause medical complications if you were dieting or injury if you were exercising. If you were using diet pills or supplements, you risk being tempted to take more than you should. Be patient, the results will come slowly but surely.

Keep statistics
You should note your weight before you took the initiative to lose weight and your weight after the initiative. With these statistics, you will have a reason to keep your weight down. You should take your weight every day and this will tell you where you are vis-à-vis where you should be. This will help you know what you are supposed to do the following day such as exercising more or going on a diet again so that you can maintain the weight. You should also keep statistics on the calories you are consuming – this will help you remain below what your maximum.

Losing weight is important if you are overweight, but maintaining the new weight is just as important.
