Motivation through “note to yourself” in weight loss program

| December 2, 2009 | 0 Comments

It happens a lot you start a weight loss program with enthusiasm and after some time you are having thoughts of quitting. Maybe it is the hardship to do exercise or maybe it is tough to resist yummy foods or maybe you hit a plateau and your weight in not reducing anymore.
Whatever the reason, you need motivation at this point otherwise you will give up. Weight loss is not easy as it involves continuous struggle with temptations and deviations. Motivation helps you keep on track and make you take sensible choices no matter what.

How to regain motivation?
One way of helping yourself to keep motivated is to write notes of motivation. These notes might be some personal message or a quote which aims at triggering an emotional response in you. This emotional response later will be responsible in diverting your attention from negative thoughts of quitting to positive thoughts of working hard towards achieving your targeted weight.
The plan for contingency:
You need to plan a little you know what your limits are and how far you can stretch yourself. You need to ask yourself honestly, where I am most likely to be tempted with food? When I feel lazy and likely to avoid doing exercise? Which part of the day I feel most hungry? etc.
After listing down all the answers you need to chalk out a plan to avoid these situations. One way of doing that is leaving notes of motivation in places where you are likely to be challenged. A good place to leave a note will be on the fridge, on the biscuit cupboard, in front of TV, on your mirror etc.
It is very motivating to see personal notes, where you address yourself by listing down your reason for losing your weight. However if you want to use general motivation quotes then here are some quotes that you will find helpful:

  • “We can do anything we want to do if we stick to it long enough.” -Helen Keller
  • “The rest of the world lives to eat, while I eat to live”. -Socrates
  • “Your body is the baggage you must carry through life. The more excess the baggage, the shorter the trip”. Arnold H. Glasgow
  • “One way to get thin is to re-establish a purpose in life”. Cyril Connolly
  • “The tragedy in life doesn’t lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach”. Benjamin Mays
  • “Victory belongs to the most persevering”. Napoleon
  • “Living a healthy lifestyle will only deprive you of poor health, lethargy, and fat.” -Jill Johnson

All you need to do is to stick these notes in a place where you need motivation. It will help to shape your decision when there is voice inside saying “I am too tired to do exercise! Not today” when you will read the note, your better sense will prevail and you will make a right decision.
