Weight Loss – Why Breakfast Is Important

Time is of the essence in this day and age we live in. We have every convenience at the tip of our fingers yet somehow we get less sleep now than our ancestors did in the ‘good old days’. Our days are filled with innumerable tasks, deadlines and meetings that have us running from one place to another. We grab our meals on the go and eat only when necessary, but sometimes the choices available aren’t always the best health-wise and our bodies have suffered for it despite the constant activity they are subjected to.

For those who want to lose a little weight skipping a few meals is one of the de rigeur methods utilized. What people don’t seem to realize however is that skipping meals, no matter how infrequently, leads more to a possibility of weight gain instead of weight loss. We are actually doing more damage to our bodies than good.

Skipping breakfast, for example, would mean having a bigger lunch or brunch and would thus defeat the point of forgoing a meal. It also invariably leads to more snacks throughout the day – and when potato chips are a drop of a coin away, this isn’t a good craving to have.

Why Should You Breakfast?

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. We’ve all heard that age-old adage from the mouths of our wisest elders and mentors but somehow we figured that perhaps they were mistaken or misinformed. How does eating breakfast help us ensure that our bodies are running in tip-top shape?

Our body is programmed to send us signals when it feels the need to rest or take in sustenance. Eating is an essential part of a person’s schedule and the food involved is used as fuel for the many activities we go through daily. Depriving our body of this source of energy can create gastronomic catastrophes of astronomic proportions.

Sleep allows our body to renew and refresh itself. We still expend a certain amount of energy when we sleep which explains the body’s clamor for sustenance as soon as it exits the sleeping state. If you have slept for the requisite 8 hours, then your body has been deprived of food for 8 hours. Your metabolism may have slowed but it most certainly did not stop.

Breakfast Is Vital
Breaking fast is vital to a healthy life that doesn’t revolve around the quickest meal fix. It clears our head for the daily tasks to be embarked upon and sets the meal tone for the whole day. Chances are, if you eat a healthy balanced breakfast you will be less liable to snack or binge on something less healthy as the day wears on.

Ulcers are one side effect of skipping meals. Extreme acidity can cause stomach lining to thin and sores to develop. People who have ulcers can experience extreme pain in their abdomen and if perforations occur, this can lead to surgical procedures being performed.

Binge eating is another danger to be faced by those who indulge in the no-eating breakfast habit. People have a tendency to eat more if they are extremely hungry.

Eat Breakfast!

If you are serious about losing weight you should also consider, with the same gravity, the ramifications of the weight loss measures that you choose to undertake. Everything in moderation is much better than starving yourself in the name of weight loss. You don’t have to sacrifice having breakfast in the hopes that this skipping one meal per day is your best bet for reducing your waistline. You’ll be so hungry from missing it that you’ll end up snacking the day away anyway or binge-eating which is even worse.

Eat a well-balanced breakfast. Or have a simple apple or a healthy fruit shake if you’re in a hurry. Your body will thank you for it.
