Eating late at night turns the food straight into fat
This is not true at all and if your overall calories are appropriate for weight loss, you can certainly eat something after dinner. All the calories that are eaten late night will ultimately get used the next day and they may even get burnt while you sleep. However, it is advisable to ingest most of your calories during the day for the sake of energy – that is when your body needs the fuel most and it stabilizes blood sugar levels.
Any type of water is always better than soda
This is not true, because there are a few caloric waters with sexy marketing ploys. Some brands of water actually have quite a bit of sugar. You should always check labels of bottled water. However, it is a fact that sodas have many processed sugars, but there are diet sodas in the market that are better than some brands of bottled water.
The more you cut calories, the more weight you lose
The truth of the matter is that cutting calories too much can actually hurt you. Cutting the calories intake below 1,200 per day will end up decreasing the metabolism and body mass and consequently, the body will store more fat. The truth is that to get the most out of the calories eaten, choose whole foods such as fresh prouce, fresh meat and fish and whole grain. This is because such foods have a higher ‘nutrient density’ compared to refined foods since they pack more vitamins and minerals into fewer calories.
Cravings are your body’s way of telling you it needs something
This is a myth that is yet to be determined scientifically. The human body normally craves what it would like to eat through smell or sight. One explanation is that hormonal changes may be responsible for food cravings and so those who want to ‘cheat’ on their dieting should not use this excuse.
Dairy products make you fat
This is not true and a dairy-rich diet can nearly double body-fat reduction and help prevent weight gain. The reason for this is that the presence of the hormone calcitriol. This hormone helps conserve calcium for stronger bones and it tells fat cells to convert less sugar to fat and burn more body fat – this leads to a leaner fat cells and a leaner body.
Fresh fruits and vegetables are more nutritious than frozen fruits and veggies
This is not necessarily the case because some frozen fruits and veggies can be great produce option as long as you do not go for the varieties with added salt, sugar, and sauce. Most frozen fruits and vegetables get picked in the peak of ripeness and this means that all their nutrients are locked in. On the other hand, fresh fruit and vegetables get harvested before they ripen due to logistical issues and this means they can have nutrient variability. The longer fresh produce sits around in your fridge, the fewer the nutrients it will have – this is not the case with frozen foods.
