Who wants to work for months and maybe even years to take off the extra weight they’re carrying? That’s why many are interested in quick weight loss, and the quicker the better! After all, you usually put a lot of effort into taking off those unwanted pounds and that effort should pay off as quickly as possible.

There is typically nothing wrong with quick weight loss; if you can lose a few pounds every week, that’s usually a good thing and most programs will tell you that you can lose one or two pounds per week. As long as you’re eating in a healthy way and exercising in a safe way, there is usually nothing wrong with that.

But there are some things you should consider when it comes to quick weight loss and why in some cases it can be dangerous. Depending upon how you achieve this rapid loss of weight, you could be damaging your body and your health. How so? How can it hurt you if you lose weight very quickly?

Fad Diets, Crash Diets

For one thing, many fad diets and crash diets say that you can have quick weight loss if you follow their diet. This may be true; you might lose several pounds every single week on a diet like this. But you may also lose many important elements in your system as well. These elements can be damaging if you lose too much.

For example, if you lose hydration due to losing water weight, your systems can suffer. The body needs adequate hydration at all times in order to be healthy. It’s used by the digestive system, the muscles, the organs, and all the cells in order to function properly.

But many who experience quick weight loss are really just losing water and fluid. This means they can become dehydrated very easily. When they’re dehydrated they get sick and cause damage to every part of the body.

It’s also possible to lose vitamins, minerals, and amino acids when you shed pounds very rapidly. This is due to a lack of adequate nutrition on those crash diets or when a person fasts or uses other extreme measures to shed pounds. These things too are needed in the body for it to be healthy.

Straining the System

And not eating properly and exercising too much can mean putting too much of a strain on the system as well. If you exercise too much you run the risk of joint damage and of damaging your back as well. It’s not unusual for those who exercise too much to have torn ligaments and damaged cartilage in these areas.

So there is nothing wrong with quick weight loss if you do it safely and mind your health along the way. You can watch what you eat and cut out sugary foods and things like this, and exercise moderately as you go. This will mean that you will shed body fat as fast as possible while still remaining healthy.
