Diet Friendly Gin Cocktails
If you enjoy the occasional cocktail and are watching your calorie intake then you are probably looking for the best way to go when it comes to the drinks you enjoy. Gin is a light colored alcohol that can be used in a wide range of drinks.
Calories in Gin.
Gin has about the same number of calories as vodka and rum. In an 80 proof ounce of gin you will find about 60 calories. This can help you figure out about how many calories your favorite drinks have. It is very important to watch what you mix your gin with.
Gin and Diet Tonic.
If you enjoy a gin and tonic than you can have the lower calorie option with gin and diet tonic. The only thing you need to remember is that the sweeteners in diet drinks often cause sugar cravings. If you want to avoid the diet tonic you can go with club soda. Add extra flavor with a splash of lime juice.
Gin and Light Juice.
Choose to mix gin with light cranberry juice for an interesting drink. Add a splash of fresh lime juice and a lime wedge. You can also try other light juices for good mixers.
Gin and Crystal Light.
Crystal light can also become a great mixer. It comes in a huge variety of flavors including cranberry and has zero calories. Add ice and any fruit that you want. Consider mint for an interesting addition.
Watermelon Gin Martini.
You can make a gin martini with watermelon. Puree watermelon chunks without seeds and mix in a dash of lime juice and 1 ½ ounces of gin. If you want you can make it a frozen drink by adding frozen watermelon. Choose the fruitier Rangpur gin for an even better fruitier blend.
Pomegranate Martinis.
Combine 1 ½ ounces gin, ½ ounce pomegranate syrup (Grenadine), and a splash of dry vermouth. Shake with ice and strain. For a fancy glass use a martini glass and coat the rim in orange and than sugar.
Don’t Be Afraid.
You can do lots of experimenting to find some amazing drinks. Consider the calories of each item you are adding, how much you are adding, and try aiming for simple at first. Don’t be afraid of sugar either since it only has about 17 calories per teaspoon. When you add a little sugar for sweetening you won’t be adding much.
Make Your Drink Go a Bit Farther.
If you take a favorite and cut as many calories as possible such as the pomegranate martini and then top it with club soda, a shot of water, or diet soda water. This will make your drink still taste good and it will also go farther. Sip on it all night and enjoy it.
If you are concerned about what you eat then you also need to watch what you drink. This is especially true when it comes to your cocktails where alcohol with a lot of calories is mixed with high calorie mixers.
