Phase One of The South Beach Diet

The South Beach Diet consists of three phases. In each phase there is a list of foods that is forbidden as well as a list that is allowed. It offers the widest variety of foods possible while still accomplishing the goals of the phase.

The Goal of Phase One.
Phase one of the South Beach Diet is really two part. The first is to jump start your weight loss. You are wanting to get started as soon as possible and this is the best way to go. The second and in many ways more important goal is to break the carbohydrate addiction.

Many people are addicted to carbohydrates and it causes us to eat diets that are very heavy in carbohydrates while missing out on a lot of good nutrition. We also tend to eat a lot of bad carbs rathat than good ones.

The Phase.
Phase one is 14 days long and often the hardest of the phases. This is because it is the one with the most cravings as you break your old habits and your old addictions. However, once you get past phase one you are on to easier things and more weight loss.

Forbidden Foods in Phase One.
Phase one forbids most, but not all carbohydrates. You are allowed to eat vegetables most vegetables. Those that are not allowed are beets, carrots, corn, potatoes including white and sweet, and yams. All fruits and starches are to be avoided. Protein should not include high fat cuts, fatty birds, or sweet options of any sort. You are also not allowed to have alcohol of any kind.

Rules.
Avoid all forbidden foods and eat till you are full. Aim for not over eating, but making sure you aren’t hungry as well. You do best if you don’t skip out on meals or food because you are less likely to mess up and binge. You get three meals and two snacks throughout the day.

Example Meal.
You will want to have as many quality proteins as you want, at least ½ cup of vegetables for breakfast and two for the other meals, and up to 1 tablespoon of fat. So you could make an omelet with a slice of chopped Canadian bacon, two eggs, black beans, onion, and bell peppers.

Example Snack.
Snacks are required. You can have one meat or one vegetable. You can also choose to have nuts. Another option would be a lot fat or fat free cheese.

Get Creative.
While you can’t eat just anything you want you have a large enough list that you can get creative with what you are all owed to have. Enjoy your meals and take time to make them taste great while following the rules.

Phase one of the South Beach diet is only 14 days long and it has a huge list of foods that you can enjoy. You can even have a few sweet treats every now and again! You can eat well and enjoy losing weight.
