Salmon isn’t high on everyone’s “eat regularly list”. It doesn’t tend to go next to spaghetti, pizza, or donuts. However, this is one super food. It provides a lot of nutrients, some of which are hard to find in the American diet, and it also helps you lose weight!

Why Does Salmon Help You Lose Weight?

There are two main ingredients found in salmon that make it a great weight loss food. The first is Vitamin D and the second are the omega-3 fatty acids it contains. These two ingredients are great for helping you lose more weight.

Vitamin D.

Lots have studies have been done with vitamin D. Vitamin D deficiency was once a common thing and many foods started being fortified with it including milk and cereal. This stopped the problem for awhile, but vitamin D deficiency is showing up in adults again because they don’t eat vitamin D foods or the foods that have been fortified with this nutrient.

Vitamin D is great because it helps increase muscle strength, improves bone healthy, reduces diabetes, helps prevent cancer, helps with arthritis, and more. One other thing that it does it slashes fat loss. It helps the body burn fat over other tissues making it easier to lose the tissues you don’t want (fat) and keep the tissues you do want (muscle and organ).

Omega-3′s.

Omega-3′s are fatty acids. These are good fats that help keep the body working better. They do three things that can help you lose weight.

  • First, they help your body burn fat more productively. This makes it easier to burn the fat you don’t want when you work out.
  • Second, they give you more energy so that you can get more done, squeeze in that workout, and workout as hard as possible.
  • Last, they improve insulin sensitivity. This makes your body work better, build more muscle, and burn more fat. More muscle will also allow you to burn more calories.

Another thing that they do is they make your body healthier by reducing pain, increasing heart function, lowering blood pressure, and aiding in the treatment of diabetes. This makes it helpful for those who have a lot of weight to lose and just aren’t healthy with a world of ailments creeping up.

Wild or Farmed Salmon?

There has been a lot of talk about the difference in wild and farmed salmon lately. There are a few thins to note. Both are good for you, but farmed salmon may contain more toxins. Wild caught salmon are also less fatty than those that are grown to be eaten. While omega-3′s are good for you, you don’t need a fattier fish to get it done.

Salmon are great for weight loss and everyone should add 12 ounces to their weekly diet. Having more salmon, canned or fresh, will make a difference in your weight loss goals. Not only will you be healthier, but you will feel better as well and be losing more weight!
