Tips To Prevent Overeating
Overeating is really easy to do and if we don’t train ourselves to eat the amounts that we should then it can become a habit. Most of us have experienced the holiday meal where we feel the need to unbutton our pants to give our food more room. Or we have gone to an all you can eat buffet and eaten more then we should have. This is bad, but with some training and a few good tips you can prevent these things from happening.
Drink Water
Okay, so it sounds too simple. But it is true. If you drink more water you will feel fuller faster and eat less. Drink it all throughout the day. Drink a full glass before each meal and drink it during meals and snacks. This alone can make a huge difference in how much you eat.
Eat Slowly and Often.
You should eat slowly and pay attention to your chewing. This will make it easier to know when you are full. Plus you should eat often. This means have a small meal or large snack every 3-4 hours, but stop eating about 3 hours before bed.
Learn to Identify When You Are Full.
Sometimes we are so used to over eating that we have forgotten what it feels like to be full. We then have to eat and eat until we are stuffed for it to get into our heads. You need to learn to identify the feeling of full again.
Stop Before You Reach Full.
Often times it takes 20 minutes for it to registrar that you are full. If you think you have eaten enough to be full, but just aren’t feeling it you should stop. Wait a half an hour and if you are full then you are good. If you aren’t full, you can always grab more to eat.
Avoid Eating For Comfort.
Often this is much easier said then done. However, you should avoid eating for comfort. First start by identifying that you are doing it. Then you should realize the foods you normally eat for comfort. Finally you should eliminate that from you life. Try exercising, self massage, meditation, or another activity for comfort. Chose one that is healthy for you and avoid things like eating, drinking, drugs, and such.
Get Your Mind Off of Food.
Food is all around us. We see a million ads a day, we have loads of foods created for our desires and addictions, and yet we need to get our minds of it. Sure it is easier said then done. But you need to stop thinking about food and start making other things more important then food.
Overeating is easy. It is built into us from the time our mothers told us to clean our plates so we could get ice cream, but the truth of the matter is that it is a huge part of why we struggle with weight loss. Get past overeating for a healthier you.
