Top Weight Loss Mistakes That You Should Avoid
Weight loss have been much publicized, and almost everyone has something to say about them. We see quick fixes and products out there claiming to burn fat off in no time. There are hundreds of articles and books on fad diets and exercise routines. But who do you listen to and who do you believe? And lastly, how do you know that what you’re doing is wrong?
Here are some of the top weight loss blunders that people still continue to commit.
Starving Yourself
Some people decide to stop gaining weight and to lose weight by eating very little – or not eating at all. Here’s the dig: when you stop eating, your body goes into “starvation mode” and loses water and muscle first. When you go back to eating again, you will burn lesser calories (because you’ve lost your muscles, and muscles burn calories.) This means that you will gain weight faster, and you will have more fat than when you started starving yourself. So if you’re planning on skipping breakfast, and lunch and dinner – don’t.
Eating Too Much Vegetables
So this is wrong? Well, partly. You see, most people eat their vegetables in the form of salads that are dressed with – you guessed it right – dressing! Most vegetable dressing contains high calories, which will help you gain more weight. Keep it low on the dressing, or stick to vinaigrette or freshly squeezed lemon juice and pepper instead.
Expecting To Lose Weight – Immediately
Most people expect to lose weight right away, but even with the best exercise routine and the healthiest diet, weight loss won’t happen right away. Most people become frustrated and give up (which is the next big mistake), thinking that their efforts aren’t working. Remember that you weight gain did not occur overnight, so don’t expect to lose weight overnight, too.
Don’t spend your time watching the scale or measuring your vital stats – this can lead to frustration. For the meantime, why don’t you focus on the effects that you get right away from exercising and eating healthy – like the energy and the alertness that you feel.
Giving Up Too Soon
You may be tempted to give up after a couple of weeks of effort, or you may find enough excuses to skip your exercises. Or sometimes, you may want to completely stop all your efforts after committing a fitness boo – boo (like missing exercise schedules or eating a whole pint of ice cream by yourself.)
Instead of giving up after a hiatus from exercising, don’t think but get up and do something active right away. If you find out that you don’t have enough time to go to the gym anymore, you don’t have to completely ditch your efforts. You can use any amount of spare time you have to be active.
Setting Expectations That Are Unrealistic
Killer curves and six pack abs – we’ve all heard of that. Everybody wants the perfect body, but this isn’t just going to happen to everybody. There are certain factors like genetics or body types that are uncontrollable. But not having the perfect body doesn’t mean that you don’t have a healthy body.
This may discourage you. But why not try to set goals that are more realistic – like exercising to become stronger, so you can play more with your kids, or eating well so that you stay live long enough and strong enough to play with your grandkids
Don’t fall into the rut of thinking of and committing these common weight loss mistakes. They will only hinder your efforts and make things difficult for you to lose weight.
