What is the South Beach Diet?

It still requires a lot carbohydrate diet compared to most Western diets.

It is also based on a balanced diet after the first 14 days which allows you to eat a healthy diet while avoiding the sugars and sweets you shouldn’t be eating.
What’s Off Limits and Why?
When people talk about the South Beach Diet they often talk about carbohydrates. It is true that there are some carbs that are off limits. However, the diet looks at the foods based on their glycemic index. This is how fast they are absorbed into the blood stream. Foods with a high glycemic index cause the blood sugar levels to rise rapidly which in turn causes insulin to be released and a dramatic fall of blood sugar levels. This leads to craving sugars! And the cycle goes on. Good carbs are those with a low glycimic index.
The other thing that is off limits in the South Beach Diet is unhealthy fats. This is a good thing and isn’t something all low carb diets do. Bad fats are bad for you whether or not you are consuming a large number of carbohydrates.
Easier To Follow.
The South Beach Diet is also easier to follow than some diets because you don’t have to spend a lot of time counting calories, fats, carbohydrates, or even points. It is a fairly simple system that lets you eat a wide range of foods and lets you eat balanced meals and snacks. It only limits bad fats and carbs with a low glycemic index.
