Snacking is often a huge issue for those trying to loose weight. There are a wide range of snacks people crave and often it isn’t a healthy choice. However there are a lot of different options that are healthy!

How Much You Eat.
The first thing that should be noted is that a lot of snacking habits are bad for you because you over eat. Choose small snacks and not large ones. This will cut calories dramatically.

Watch When You Eat.
When is also a very important issue. Eating during the day is less likely to bother your diet then eating right before bed. Always avoid eating the hour and a half before bed.

Evaluate Your Cravings.
Cravings are also put into one of two categories: salty and sweet. You will want to decide which type of snack you want and where what you are craving would fit in and then choose something in that category to replace it.

Salty Snack Options.
There are a huge variety of things that you can choose from that are salty and yet fairly healthy choices. Remember that the biggest key is having a small snack rather then a large one.

  • Popcorn is a great snack option. Just make sure you choose low butter or butter free and low salt for the best options. If you can go with air popped popcorn with a spray on flavored seasoning.
  • Nuts and seeds are good for you. It is true that they are high in fat, but they are good fats, so if you eat small portions then it will be okay.
  • Low fat cheese is a good food that will help with cravings and is also good at helping keep you full.
  • Veggies and dip are good, just choose a low fat dip. If you want to make your own use 1 part low fat sour cream and 1 part plain yogurt. Then add herbs, garlic, pepper, and other seasonings for great taste.
  • While many people think that pickles are a weird snack they are pretty good for you and very tasty. Plus their crunch is one that helps get rid of other cravings.
  • Pretzels are low fat, tasty, and good for you!

Sweet Snack Options.
Once again remember portion control!

  • Fruit is always recommended and high in nutrients.
  • Cereal can be healthy, sweet, and you can add a little low fat milk for a filling and tasty option.
  • Toast with honey or jam is also a good way to go.
  • Sweet flavored rice cakes are healthy for you and easy to find in several different options.
  • Low fat graham crackers are also tasty and easy to enjoy. Want an extra special treat then top your graham cracker with low fat yogurt and turn it into a sandwich.

Drinks.
Drinks can also be a problem for people. You should consider calories and how healthy the drink is. Some good options include milk, juice, and tea.

Everything you put in your mouth should be considered. You can have healthy snacking options and this will reduce the amount of unhealthy snacks you eat, which in turn will make it easier to loose weight. Just don’t forget to be careful when you eat.
