How to lose weight? A question asked by millions today. There are times, when you are following a strict diet, happy with what you are eating. But then suddenly, you crave for your favorite food forbidden in your diet.

The determination you maintained till yesterday is gone. You wonder why you denied yourself the foods you love. You look in the mirror and say “well! I don’t look so bad, so why should I diet; I look ok for my age”. So there goes your diet, resolutions and goals.

It’s high time you decide on a final resolution. “Yes I am going to achieve my goal”. You should follow some techniques which will help you to shed those unsightly pounds off.

1. Set a goal:

Unless you have a goal, you will not prepare yourself to achieve it. So write down your goal. Note down a clear picture of your goal and then you will have an idea as to how to reach there. Note down how much weight you intend to lose in a week. Aiming to lose a pound a week is safe.

2. Keep a food journal:

Note down everything that comes to your mind regarding food. Foods which are fatty and with sugar content which are considered as bad, and low calorie fiber rich food which are considered as good. Write your opinion about the food. Example, you can say, wow! That smell of baked potatoes or the meat dish is great, but it’s bad for me. Such comments on your journal will inspire you to avoid bad foods.

3. Note the values of food:

Make a note of the value and importance of the food you have noted. Values are like emotions, like family, rituals, colors, freshness etc.

4. Make a note of whatever you eat:

Make a note of everything you eat in a day, in your journal. This will help you know how many calories you consume in a day, and if you need to make any changes in your eating habits.

5. Write antidotes:

Write down some antidotes which you can go through when you crave for food. Example:

Your aim……..

A picture of how you would like to be. Like a picture of a girl with a beautiful body, wearing a bikini……….

A sacred mantra, which you can chant, to divert your mind from food………….

Some activities you can do other than eating; like yoga, calling a friend, going out for a dance or a movie……………..

6. Get your thoughts back to your body:

Set aside some time to think about your body.

Have you achieved anything so far………

Do you need to make any changes?

Which part of your body has excess weight to reduce……….

7. Face obstacles:

Anticipate the fact that you will face obstacles. It is in your hands whether you are determined to continue or quit.

8. Divert your mind:

Another thing you can do to divert your mind is to give importance to scenery. Go for long drives, stopping occasionally to enjoy the scenery.

Following these techniques, you can control yourself and reach your goal.
