Choosing Low Calorie Vodka Drinks

The truth is that drinking isn’t a good way to lose weight. Alcohol makes it harder for your body to burn fat and even adds calories. While you shouldn’t drink regularly you can enjoy the occasional cocktail. If you are a vodka drinker you have several lower calorie options to enjoy.

Know Your Vodka.
Vodka is a clear liquor that has some of the fewest calories in alcohol. The higher the proof the more calories it will have. For example 80 proof vodka is the most common type and it has about 64 calories per ounce. On the other hand 100 proof vodka has 82 calories per ounce.

Vodka and Cranberry.
One of the best low calorie drinks available is vodka with cranberry juice. Make sure your cranberry juice is 100% juice and go for a “light” variety for even fewer calories. Add extra flavor with fresh lime juice.

Watermelon Martini.
For a tasty treat that doesn’t go too overboard on the calories go with a watermelon martini. This is a combination of pureed watermelon, simple syrup, and vodka. You can make it lighter by skipping the simple syrup or frozen by using frozen watermelon chunks.

Vodka and Club Soda.
For a drink similar to a vodka and tonic you can choose a vodka and club soda. This is a drink full of flavor, but lighter on calories and sugar. You can also use diet tonic water or diet club soda for even fewer calories. Remember to be careful with diet drinks which can cause sugar cravings.

Vodka and Diet Soda.
You can have vodka and diet soda for low calorie treat. This is another time you need to remember that diet sodas can cause sugar cravings, but if you are prepared for that than enjoy.

Vodka and Lime with Water.
For an interesting and low calorie option fill a glass with lots of ice. Top with vodka and fresh lime juice. Than finish filling the glass with water. For an eight ounce beverage use 1.5 ounces of vodka.

Bloody Mary.
A bloody Mary will give you a calorie count somewhere in the 150 range. However it is tasty and the tomato juice will aid in keeping you feeling full so you are less likely to eat and drink more. You are also less likely to experience sugar cravings.

Flavored Vodka.
Another great way to go with new flavors and exciting drinks is to add a flavored vodka. Go for a vanilla vodka with your club soda for more flavor. Don’t be afraid to get creative with flavored vodkas.

Drinking vodka drinks can be done on occasion and in moderation. Make sure you only have one or two drinks to control calories and to keep your inhibitions so you don’t get crazy with drinks and snack foods. It’s a good idea to drink a glass of water after each drink, it will slow you down, keep you feeling buzzed, and help keep you hydrated. Plus your friends will never know it is just water!
