Control Your Craving to Lose Weight
If you want to lose weight, your motto should be ‘eat to live and not live to eat’.
Food was created in this world for consumption by living things. However, with the tremendous rise in the standard of living and easy availability of food to people living mostly in urban areas, the fine line dividing ‘want’ and ‘need’ is obscuring.
This abundance of food has led to various food-related health problems among the urban population. These happen when food is consumed to satisfy the social, emotional and circumstantial needs. Surprisingly large percentage of the population suffers from eating trigger related disorders.
What is the way out?
Eating triggers affect different people in different ways. Some people eat when they watch others eat. Some eat when they are upset or to divert their attention from something painful. All these can lead you to only one outcome – weight gain and ill health.
While following the urge or craving, people tend to eat tasty, but fatty and oily foods. These are called comfort foods for no other reason. However, the comfort offered by these foods is short-lived. In fact, the so-called comfort foods add more stress instead of comforting you. The extra calories and fat supplied by these comfort foods add to your weight and health problems.
The key to controlling this behavior is to change your eating habits compulsorily. Instead of fat-laden snacks, opt for fiber-rich whole grains that are less salty and sugary. This will fill your stomach within no time that you won’t feel hungry for longer periods.
Healthy snacks also benefit by adding less fat to the daily diet. Hence, the best way to combat this alarming trend is to switch over to healthy snacking.
How to make this change possible?
The first step in this direction should be to remove all unhealthy snacks from your vicinity and stock up only healthy snacks. This will make a tremendous change in the snacking habit.
If there is a specific trigger that you find irresistible, try to avoid it altogether. For example, if you know that whenever you visit a supermarket, you tend to buy unnecessary unhealthy foods, stop going to the supermarket. You can ask somebody else to do the shopping or call in for home delivery.
Here are some tips on how to avoid unhealthy snacking.
1)People tend to eat when they have nothing worthwhile to do. So, be active and keep yourself out of trouble.
2)People who are lazy by nature need nudges and reminders to do work and follow new rules. Get somebody close to help you.
3)Many people snack when they are watching TV. If you find it difficult to control your snacking habit while watching TV, leave the TV-viewing habit.
4)Doing away the unhealthy snacking habit may not happen all of a sudden. Chart out your diet for each day and create the right mood and environment to make it possible for you to follow the fixed diet.
