Obesity is a problem faced by many. Excessive weight increases the risks of many diseases and studies show that obesity can also lead to early deaths. Today people are trying various ways to reduce their weight. Although there are varieties of rapid weight loss products available in the market, you have to be careful when using them, because they might not be as effective as advertised and they might also have harmful side effects. Losing weight can be achieved by two ways: DIET and EXERCISE.

Now, which is better? The main factor behind weight loss is that you have to consume sufficient calories for remaining healthy and burn the calories through physical activity, because excess calories remain as fat in your body. So is it diet or exercise that helps you to lose weight? Let’s take a look at both these factors, to understand each one better.

Diet:

People all over the world spend so much money on diet pills and plans with the hope of losing weight. But not many people have been successful. This is mainly because people are confused and do not know what to eat.

You have to eat a healthy diet! This is important. You can gather information from the various diet websites, diet magazines, or consult your nutritionist, who can advice you about eating the right food, instead of blindly following the diet plans, without understanding the benefits of various foods.

Eating the wrong food with more calories is the main reason for putting on weight. Visiting the fast food outlets often will make you eat foods which are rich in fats and calories. You should follow a disciplined diet program, reducing your calorie intake, thereby reducing your weight.

To reduce weight, reduce your calorie intake. But then don’t starve yourself. Your diet should include carbohydrates, protein, and necessary fat, vitamins, minerals, fiber and plenty of water. Too much of fat will increase bad cholesterol, which increases the risk of heart diseases and too much of sugar increases glucose level which leads to diabetes. So choose your diet sensibly, and eat healthy food.

Exercise:

Exercise is considered as the key to weight loss. The excess calories in your body can only be burnt by physical activity. Exercise helps in reducing weight and keeps you energetic throughout the day. But you should maintain a systematic and consistent schedule of exercising. You should set aside some time from your daily routine for exercises, preferably in the morning. Also don’t strain yourself by exercising too much. This can cause injuries to your muscle tissues. Plan in advance start slowly and slowly increase your pace.

Don’t spend money joining gyms. With a small investment and some space in your house, you can have an economical gym of your own. Walking is the best form of exercise. 30-60 minutes of walking everyday, helps your body burn a lot of calories.

Diet and exercise are inter-related. Both should go hand in hand. A balanced nutritious diet with consistent exercising will help you shed a few pounds off and reach your weight loss goal.
