Easy Snack Ideas for a Healthy Diet
Snacking is not harmful. It is needed for a healthy diet. Not everyone snacks. For some people three meals a day is sufficient, while some people snack occasionally. It is not a bad habit, but you have to be careful of what you eat. You have to know what snacks are healthy otherwise you might make the wrong choice. You might end up eating snacks that are rich in calories, fat and sugar.
Overeating is bad. Stretching your hand towards the snack box twice a day is ok. Frequency in eating increases the number of digestions, and this in turn increases the metabolism level in your body, thereby helping your body to burn more calories. So three meals plus two snacks is the right thing you can do. Drink plenty of water, as water not only prevents your body from dehydration, but also fills up your stomach, reducing your hunger. Also consume snacks rich in protein. Protein makes to feel full, so that you don’t feel hungry often.
Your snacks should be less in calories, but rich in nutrients. Otherwise it might not satisfy your appetite. No point in snacking if you are going to feel hungry often.
Crunchy and salty:
Popcorns are low calorie and filling. Avoid pre-packed popcorns, you can lightly microwave them. Almonds, raw mixed nuts, dried fruits, pretzels, baked tortilla chips etc can also be eaten as snacks.
Fruits and vegetables should be included in your diet.
When you feel hungry between meals, have an apple or banana or some grapes. They are low in calorie and also fill up your stomach. Apples contain a lot of fiber. Or you can cut some fruit and make fruit salad. They are tasty, filling and healthy. You can also have some dried fruits in between meals. In fact dried fruits contain fewer calories than fresh fruits.
Vegetables are also very healthy snacks. When you are hungry have some raw vegetable salads. Carrot, cucumber, broccoli, cauliflower, beans and carrots can be used to make salads. If you find it difficult to eat naked salads, you can flavor them with yoghurt, dried herbs or spinach paste. You can also fry them lightly in olive oil.
Dairy products:
String cheese, cottage cheese and yoghurt are healthy dairy snacks. Dairy snacks contain proteins and calcium and other nutrition’s and very healthy. Since dairy products contain fat, select low- fat, low-calorie versions.
Drinks:
Take some low fat milk, add some bananas and whip it in a blender, with some chocolate syrup and ice cubes. Wow! A healthy banana shake is ready. Or you can whip an orange with some yoghurt. Low fat chocolate milk is now available which is said to be a good energizer.
Sweet snacks:
If you would like to have some sweets, don’t hesitate. Only make sure they are low calorie. Some low calorie sweet snacks are; fat-free Jell-o chocolate pudding, sugar free Popsicle, snickers kudus bar, wheat fig bars, animal crackers etc.
You have to be smart and careful in choosing your snacks. Make sure you keep healthy snacks with you. Whatever you eat, do so in moderate quantity. Too much of anything is bad.
