Definition of emotional eating…
Emotional eating can be self defined as the title itself, eating with emotions. The real definition of emotional eating is when you eat in response to what you feel, even if you are not hungry. It means that you are eating in response to what you feel and your mind dictates it not your body. Your emotions dictates how much you would eat and what foods would make you feel better.
There are many factors like feelings and emotions that leads to emotional eating; the most common amongst them all is being sad and depressed. How many of you have tried eating sweets like chocolates, cakes or worst ice creams when you feel sad and lonely? I bet almost all people turn into eating machines when they get depressed not to mention that alcohol is on the list too. Other emotions being linked with emotional eating are:
Confusion
Depression
Sadness
Angry
Frightening
Happy
Joyous
Celebrations
We find ourselves very comfortable eating something when we are depressed, most of the time we would say to our self that these foods would make us feel better. Commonly foods that emotional eaters eat are sweets, gooey, tough, salty, spicy and cold. High caloric foods and high on sodium foods are on the top list, including sweet foods that are high on sugar content. We can clearly see that emotional eating is linked as a defense mechanism rather than need of the body.
