Sometimes, no matter how hard that you may try, you won’t be able to lose weight. This can be really infuriating as losing weight may seem to be an impossible task. There could be several reasons for this. In these instances, you may want to get some extra medical help to help yourself to lose weight. This is only normal, as sometimes only your doctor may be able to assist you to lose weight.

When Do You Need to Ask Your Doctor?

You definitely need to ask assistance to your doctor, if any of the following conditions are present:

  • You may be more than %30 overweight. For example, let’s say that your regular body weight is 100 pounds. If you are 130 pounds then this means that you are %30 overweight. You will have to get assistance from your doctor to lose weight
  • If your BMI (Body Mass Index) is more than 5 points above your normal amount, you will have to consider getting some medical help to lose weight.
  • If you have been trying to lose weight for at least a month and if you have not been able to give even a pound; then it is time to get your doctor to intervene. For example, you may have some hormonal issues which may prevent your body from burning fat. In these instances, it can be almost impossible to lose weight unless some medications are prescribed by your doctor.
  • If you have high blood pressure or Type II Diabetes, then definitely you will need some assistance from your doctor.

Which Medical Options are Available to You?

  • In some cases, your doctor may want to prescribe some certain medication to help to restore chemical and hormonal balance to your body
  • In some instances, fat burning medicine such as Xenical may be used. Keep in mind that these are not diet pills, but rather sensitive medication.
  • Your doctor may give you a combination of medicines and a rigorous diet to help you to lose weight.
  • You may also have the option of using gastric bypass surgery, if you are considered as extremely obese. This is a special kind of an operation that allows your stomach to be shortened and the gastric tube to be bypassed, so that the patient’s appetite can be physically controlled. However, this is a serious operation and you will need to make sure that your doctor approves such an operation.
  • You can also use liposuction to siphon off fat from certain areas of your body (such as your tummy, your rear etc). This is however a palliative solution, as you will need to combine exercise and dieting to make sure that you lose weight overall.
  • In some cases, your doctor may prescribe psychotherapy to help you to overcome your emotional triggers that can cause you to eat. In many cases, not being able to lose weight is entirely psychological and you can lose weight with concentrated therapy.
