Motivate yourself in weight loss program by eliminating emotional eating
Most of the people who are fat have a life style that is basically responsible for them being fat. There have been numerous studies which suggest that obese people have poor eating habits while lack of activities contributes in piling pounds on their bodies.
Analyzing poor eating habits
In analyzing poor eating habits we need to look at the reasons which makes us eat and why the choice of food we consume are so poor. Most of the people who are obese are usually depressed, the reason for this depression can be numerous but the common thing which emerges from this depression is emotional eating.
Is it emotional eating or physical eating?
There are several facts that will help you distinguish between the two. Emotional eating craving comes on suddenly and there is urgent need to satisfy it. It is usually directed towards a certain food and after eating, leaves you in feeling of guilt. While physical hunger is gradual and not directed towards any food and there is no apparent urge to satisfy it immediately and does not leave the feeling guilt behind.
How can you motivate yourself by eliminating emotional eating?
Well for one thing remind yourself you are not a dustbin, where you fill gaps in your soul with garbage food. It will only result in piling pounds on your body, making you feel far worse.
In order to stop emotional eating, you need to preplan so whenever the situation arise where you are faced by a trigger that will lead to emotional eating, you know what to do. First step in doing that is to recognize emotional eating and learn what triggers this behavior in you.
How to distract yourself?
After identifying triggers, you take in to account how to distract yourself by making a list of other things you can do to divert your attention. This will help to curb the urge for filling oneself with food as your mind will be diverted.
For instance if you are sitting idle and a sudden urge comes that you should have cookie and you feel light headed and want an energy boost, best is to get up drink a glass of water and then call a friend or go for a walk or you can play some game or do something productive.
Gradually you will see a difference emerging in your attitude. Your mind will no longer link satisfying emotional distress with food. This will be highly motivating factor for anyone who always end up eating more in depression.
Although it is not easy at first as whenever we go through depression our mind looks for comfort and most people find comfort in food hence the term “comfort food”. These comfort foods provide much needed emotional cushion at the time of stress. Replacing these comfort foods with can be a difficult task but with a little bit of distraction you might be able to avoid eating them all the time.
