Ordering Options At Subway For Weight Loss
Many people believe that ordering at Subway automatically guarantees that you are going to get a healthy meal. However, there are some great choices and some not so great choices to order from Subway. Knowing the best options will help you with your weight loss goals.
Size Matters.
You need to consider how much food you get. With the $5 foot longs it is easy to order 12” of sandwich and enjoy it all. However, if you want to loose weight then go for the 6”.
Bread.
The first choice you have to make is bread. There are several options but your healthiest choice is wheat. If you can’t stand wheat then go with the Italian. The fancier types such as Italian Herbs and Cheese are higher in fat and not as good for you.
Meat and Cheese.
You have to choose what type of meats and cheeses you want next. If you are going for low calories and low fat then it is a good idea to choose chicken or turkey without cheese. Other meats have more fat and calories, especially salami and pepperoni. Cheese is also high in fat.
Veggies.
It is a good idea to load your sandwich up with heatlhy vegetables. Include lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers, and onions. The other choices you have aren’t as nutritious, but they aren’t bad for you either. So, pile them on.
Sauces.
Your last choices is a sauce. You can go without for a sandwich that is still tasty. Most places also offer a seasoning, salt, and or pepper that can be added without changing your calorie count. Vinaigrettes, honey mustard, and even olive oil are okay to add. Remember that olive oil is good for you. Try to avoid mayo!
The Meal.
What you eat and drink with your meal is also important. Chips are a pretty bad choice, but most Subways offer a wide variety of baked chips which can be a better option. Subways also offer yogurt, apples, and raisins to go with your sandwich. These are better options.
The Drink.
Your last choice is your drink. Soda is bad for you and high in calories. Diet soda has no calories, but is still bad for you and some research suggests that it causes sugar cravings. You can still choose it, just drink in moderation. Tea and water are better options.
What About Pizza?
There are a lot of people who think that pizza from subway is healthy for you because it is from Subway so don’t feel bad if you are one of those people. However, pizza is pizza and it just isn’t all that good for you.
Making decisions at Subway doesn’t have to be hard. However, it isn’t as simple as walking in and ordering whatever it is you desire. Subway has a printable brochure with all their nutrition information on it. It is a good idea to arm yourself with that and know what it is you are ordering at Subway.
