Quick Weight Loss – The Horror Behind The Mask

| January 24, 2010 | 0 Comments

Losing your weight quickly, without sweating it out or changing your diet is something that most people would like to experience. Who wouldn’t, anyway? But the this is, while quick weight loss is enticing to hear and imagine – there are indeed horrors behind the mask. Let’s

Weight Loss Surgery
Weight loss surgery seems to be the quickest, albeit most expensive, way to lose weight. While results are immediately noticeable faster than you can say surgery, there are also disadvantages that come along with this method. Among the risks of weight loss surgery are arising complications and infections that come after surgery, and may lead to disabilities, hospitalization or even death. Would you want to face these risks?

Weight Loss Drugs

Another method for rapid weight loss is by using weight loss drugs and medication. There are plenty of weight loss drugs in the market that combat obesity, and around half a dozen drugs that are off label, but treat obesity as well. These medications include Byette and Glucophage, Topamax, Ritalin and Adderal, Provigil and Wellbutrin. These are individually targeted for varying illnesses and disorders, but have unintended weight loss as side effects as well.

Most people take these medication (those labeled for weight loss, and those which aren’t) because they are said to treat obesity and help lose weight quick. The truth is, these only reduce the appetite or mask it. Once the drug wears out, the appetite comes back, and the user ends up eating more. So there is the tendency for the person to be dependent on the drug just to lose weight and keep it off. Or, he can stop using the drug and experience a rebound and gain weight again.

These drugs can be used alone, or with other drugs, also known as weight loss cocktails. This can be very risky, and can even be fatal.

Crash Diets
Another method to losing weight fast is through crash dieting. Most people resort to this because this is the easiest and cheapest way to lose weight quick. Just starve for a couple of days and exercise like nuts and viola – an instant drop in pant size.

This method should be avoided at all costs. Even though they allow one to lose weight very quickly, the method in doing so will do loads of damage to the body in the process. These crash and starvation diets often come with conflicting claims, and most people fall for them.

First is that starving or crash dieting boosts the metabolism. This is untrue. By consuming lower amount of calories than usual, the body’s metabolism slows down even more. Another false claim that most people believe is that starving oneself can actually detoxify the body. This is, again, untrue. Crash diets are also most commonly coupled with excessive exercise, which can cause fatigue and dehydration because it cannot be sustained anymore by the body’s low calorie intake.

While these methods to losing weight are quick and easy, they do not guarantee effective and safe weight loss. As always, natural weight loss consisting of a healthy diet and exercise is still key to safe and effective weight loss.
