Losing weight is good when you really need to especially for those people who want to achieve a leaner body than what they have presently. But when you lose weight rapidly and you are not even dieting then you should start observing your body because this is not normal. Most often than not unexplainable rapid weight loss symptoms have underlying diseases of conditions. You may not actually feel that you are really sick but then this is already one symptom showing that there is more going on inside your body that needs attention. So before it maybe too late for you, here are some of the things that may cause the abnormality in weight loss.
Diabetes or Cancer
For both conditions you may not actually feel that you are really sick but losing weight rapidly may further indicate that you really are. If you have undiagnosed diabetes mostly it is preceded by weight loss that is unexplainable. On the other hand for Cancer whatever types it maybe, the treatment and the disease itself causes the rapid weight loss.
Hyperthyroidism
When the hormones produced by your thyroid gland is more than what’s normal then you may be in a condition called hyperthyroidism. This may result to unexplained sudden weight loss. To determine whether this is really the reason to that, you may seek medical attention and your doctor may perform a series of tests to validate your condition.
Digestive diseases or Gastrointestinal Problems
Symptoms that show malabsorption may cause immediate weight loss. Symptoms like colitis or persistent diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome or other GI implications can be confirmed by a gastroenterologist and may give you medications if there is really a presence of these diseases.
Medication
You may not know it but what you may be taking is the root cause of your unexplained weight loss. There are actually a couple of medications that have been already known to cause weight loss and these are mostly anti depressants. So when you have the feeling that your medication is causing you to loss weight then it is best to talk it over with your doctor. Also it would really help if you read the accompanying packaging on your prescribed medication.
Aging
When you age you will find yourself having difficulty eating or chewing due to physical constraints. This will lead to eating lesser compared to when you were still younger.
You can consider your weight loss as abnormal when it happens in a very immediate manner. A very good example is losing a big amount of weight like 10% in such a short period of time. If you think that the figure is not really that significant then there’s no need for you to call a doctor. If it happens otherwise though you should start talking to your doctor and this is regardless if you are young or old.
