Should I Exercise At Home or The Gym?

People who have decided to lose weight have two factors to consider; Dieting and Exercising. When thinking about exercise, the first question that comes to their mind is “which is better, gym exercise or home exercise?” The important thing is not the place, but consistency. You should decide where you can work comfortably and with consistency.

Some people prefer exercising at home, while some say going to the gym is better. Now let’s consider a few points of exercising at home and the gym.

Gym is expensive, home is not:

Going to the gym is expensive. You have to pay a high membership fees. For a yearly fee you pay at the gym, you can buy some second hand equipments and have a small private gym at home. But of course you should have the space. Even if you can’t afford to buy exercising equipment, you can just do some push-ups, squats, ab crunches, leg raising etc. Or go for a walk or jog.

Why go to the gym when you can reduce 300 calories by jogging for 30 minutes. But one benefit of exercising at the gym is you have trainers who will teach you to use the equipment properly and develop an exercise routine that is suitable for you.

You have to reach on time, at home no time control:

When you are exercising at home, there no excuse of saying you don’t have the time. You just roll out of bed and spend half an hour exercising. If you are going to the gym, you have to reach there on time. Sometimes it might be crowded and you will have to wait for hours to get a machine.

But some people say that when you are exercising at home, sometimes you feel lazy to wake up and you have the tendency to skip exercising. This can de-motivate you. Whereas you will not skip going to the gym, especially since you are paying a huge monthly fee, and there are lot of people who enquire when you don’t turn up.

No disturbance at home, but inspiration at the gym:

If you have some equipment like treadmill, dumbbells, resistance bands etc, you can maintain a discipline and consistent exercise at home. You are not disturbed by anybody. Whereas, at the gym, you might waste time talking with your colleagues than concentrating on exercise.

People, who are not serious about exercising, come to the gym to socialize and simply chat. On the other hand, some people say that talking with your colleagues and discussing your weight loss goals with each other is an inspiration, to reach your goal faster.

You can exercise even in your night dress at home, but you have to wear your workout dress for the gym:

Dressing is another factor which is the benefit of working at home. You have to dress properly in your workout gear if you have to go to the gym. For people who feel lazy to change their clothes, or who are conscious of being watched by other people in their exercise clothes, home exercise is the best. You can even exercise in your pajamas.

Exercising at home and the gym, have both negative and positive points. Which is better? This depends on your budget, time, and fitness level and where you are comfortable.
