Obesity is a problem faced by millions all over the world. People have now started getting conscious of their excess weight. Understanding the various health risks involved with obesity and with a dream of a shapely body, people have started trying various diet programs to lose weight. While some people have succeeded, many have failed. This is mainly because they don’t make any changes in their lifestyle.
Some people just don’t bother to find a way to reduce weight. They say it is a genetic problem, or that they don’t have time for exercises. Some are just pessimistic about the whole thing. “Oh! I have put on so much weight, and in no way I can reduce it”. Well! It is high time you changed this attitude. If you want to do it, you can do it. Where there is a will, there is a way. Be optimistic:
First thing is to believe in your self. You should have the belief that you will succeed. ‘Yes I will become thin’. This thought should be on your mind constantly. Talk to yourself. Ask yourself why you should reduce your weight. Write down then reasons, why you want to reduce. Write about the harmful health effects of obesity. Think of how active you can be and how shapely you will look after you lose weight. I am sure this will motivate you.
You should set a goal:
Only if you have a goal, you will think of achieving it. Decide how many pounds you are going to lose in a week. You can also keep a food journal and write down all that you eat in a day. This will help you to know how many calories you consume in a day. Write your goal and check it every week to see if you are progressing.
Exercise:
Whatever diet program you follow, to achieve successful weight loss, you should also exercise. You should do both cardiovascular or aerobic exercises like walking, running, jogging, swimming, treadmill etc. and strength training exercises like weight lifting, water aerobics, using elastic band etc. A combination of both these exercises will help you to lose the weight you desire.
Nutrition:
You should follow a nutritious diet. Your diet should consist of vitamins, minerals, fiber and amino acids. You should also take nutritional supplements along with your diet. These nutritional supplements will replace any nutritional deficiency in your diet.
Measure progress:
Every week you should measure progress. Make a note of your weight every week, and also take measurements. This will help you know if you are losing weight as desired or whether you need to make changes in your diet or exercises.
Make changes:
If your progress is slow, its time you made changes. You might have to change your exercises. If you had been walking, try and change to jogging or running. Also check your diet. Have you been having sweet or fatty food?
Persist:
Consistency is the key to success. Your aim is not only to lose weight, but to also retain the weight loss. Make changes in your lifestyle and you will succeed in reaching your goal.
