  • Swimming is also considered as a weight training and resistance training exercise. As you exert yourself against water, your muscles also get a workout and as a result you can be considered as doing a resistance exercise.
  • Since your body weight is considerably lowered when you are in water, this allows you to exercise without overexerting pressure on your joints. This way, it doesn’t matter whether you are old or handicapped as you can easily swim.

There are several things that you need to watch out for when you are swimming to lose weight:

  • You have to swim regularly in order to benefit fully from swimming and weight loss.
  • The best plan is to swim for 2-3 times a week for 45 minutes to 60 minutes per session.
  • You need to vary your swimming patterns as your body will burn more calories when you swim in different patterns. Also, you will need to vary your speed too. This means swim fast for few minutes, then slow down, and then speed up again.
  • Don’t eat anything before swimming.
