Use diet journal to motivate yourself in your weight loss program

Most of us have gone through various diets where we have lost weight and we have gained weight. It is completely frustrating to keep repeating your effort time and time again for the same weight reduction. Where the fault lies?
Most of us do not even realize that we ourselves sabotage our efforts. Sub consciously or consciously we are responsible for our continual struggle with weight. Not knowing the reason and going through the same routine of trying different diets leave us frustrated and de motivated.
In order to avoid falling in to the same trap again and being de motivated we have to meticulously analyze our pattern of life & habits of eating. One way of doing that is keeping a diet journal.

What is a diet journal?
A diet journal records your pattern of eating and amount of food consumed. When we consume food we are hardly take in to account the portion size and calories intake. However if you keep a record of the number of calories consumed on each meal and the number of calories you have burned in exercise, you will be getting a clear picture. A journal is an excellent tool to keep a record of everything.
How to keep a diet journal?

  • When you start a journal, you should first write the commitment you are doing to yourself. Write down your goals and what you tend to achieve with this weight loss program. Make sure that each day you open, that page and loudly say that to yourself with conviction to renew your commitment towards yourself.
  • Next thing is to make a chart of progress in your journal; it should record weight and inches lost in a month. If you want, you can keep a picture progress of yourself so you can see where you are going. This is highly motivating as you see yourself thinning over the period of time.
  • Search for calories chart on net, which list calories count in each food item, keep that as a guide and count all the calories consumed in each day. Record everything, even any drink you consume, other than water. Also take note of what you eat and when you eat. This will help in defining a pattern and will help you identify problems.
  • Search for cardio workout calories burned chart, this list various cardio activities and number of calories burned in certain period of time, it will help you jot down the number of calories you have burned in a day.

Now you will have an exact picture of you’re eating habits and exercise pattern, this help you in analyzing where the fault lies and how to correct them. It will also help in motivating you, as you will see your progress through your journey of weight loss. You will be constantly reminded what are your goals and what progress you have made in achieving them.
