| October 5, 2009 | 0 Comments

A backyard trampoline can be used for weight loss and not just for the kids. It can be a lot of fun, add variety of your regular exercise routine, and can even be done with the kids for loads of fun. Plus it is really effective at getting the heart rate up, helping to build muscles, and working toward weight loss.

Jumps.
There are a huge variety of jumps that you can do to work on getting your heart rate up and lose weight. Try each kind to find out what you like or do them in sets.

  • Up and down jumps are very natural.
  • Side to side ones are a little harder to do. Try to keep your upper body straight up and down while the bottom half moves from right to left and back again.
  • Front to back is a similar motion but requires a different swing of the hips.
  • Twists can happen if you twist your shoulders. Aim for 180 degrees.
  • Spins are twists that happen a lot farther. You should try to jump as high as possible and spin all the way around.
  • Scissor kicks are also fun. To make them happen jump as high as possible then bring one leg forward and one backward while you are in the air. The next time you do it change use the other leg to go forward!
  • Splits are done by jumping as high as possible and then swinging your legs out to each side as possible.
  • Knee jumps occur when you jump up and down and then land on your knees rather then your feet. You will bounce and if your jump had been significant enough the bounce will take you high enough to put your legs back under you and continue jumping.
  • Sitting jumps are very similar to knee jumps. Only this time you will jump a few jumps to build momentum and sit down and then bounce back to your feet.
  • Laying jumps are similar to knee and sitting jumps. However this time you will lay down and bounce back up.

Reps and Combinations.
There are two ways that you can use the trampoline and the jumps above. The first is to do several reps of the same jump in a row. For example, do 15 scissor kicks. The other option is to do a combination such as side to side, scissor kick, and sitting jump and then repeating it again and again.

Using a backyard trampoline can be a lot of fun. They have a lot to offer you for weight loss as well as general fitness. Plus the whole family can enjoy it!
