Weight Loss Supplements – Should You Take Them?

| August 1, 2009 | 0 Comments

If you’re thinking of using weight loss supplements, then you’re in for a tough time. There are numerous weight loss supplements out in the market, claiming to help you lose weight like magic. While it is very tempting to try the newest ones in the market that promise the best results, the safety concerns and possible side effects may not be listed. Thus, it’s always good to stick with those that have been tried, tested and proven effective.

A Wide Choice
Still, choosing from those which have been proven to be effective can be difficult, as there are still plenty of them. Here are some supplements, just to mention a few:
Fucoxanthin – This is an antioxidant that occurs naturally in seaweeds. Fucoxanthin has yet a long way to go before it can be recommended for weight loss, but it has had promising results. One finding about fucoxanthin when it was studied preliminarily in animals was that it targetted abdominal fat. Abdominal fat is closely linked to diabetes and heart disease.
Apple Cider Vinegar – Apple cider vinegar naturally suppresses appetite, and act as a fat burner. Most people even follow something called apple cider diet. This diet requires the person to take apple cider tablets or at least one to three teaspoons before each meal. Apple cider vinegar can also be used in cooking.
Hoodia – Hoodia is a popular herbal supplement that also acts like a natural anti depressant. You should be careful though. It has been estimated that more than 50% of all hoodia products out in the market are fake.
Gurana – Is another supplement that comes from a native plant from the Amazon rain forest. Gurana has black seeds which are very rich in caffeine, and has approximately twice the same caffeine content as coffee beans. This supplement can raise energy expenditure. However, large or excessive amounts can result to anxiety and palpitations.

Should You Use Them?
Now the question comes – should you use them? By all means, yes. But do so with caution. As I would like to state the definition of supplement in order for you to fully understand what I mean. Supplements are something that is added in order to complete something or to make up for a deficiency. By this, weight loss supplements are used in order to add to your weight loss regimen – and not to replace it.

What to Do
Most people use weight loss supplements alone, believing that they are magic pills and will work wonders after a week’s use, but they refuse to alter their lifestyles. Then, they end up wondering why the supplements don’t work and why they haven’t lost any single pound.
You should keep in mind that exercise and getting the proper diet are the most important things that you should never overlook when it comes to losing weight. The supplements are simply there to enhance and help you with your weight loss, but are never the exact solutions for it.
