Where Diets Go Wrong
Overweight! Apart from increasing the risk of so many diseases, being overweight can also cause embarrassment and mental depression. So what do we do when we are overweight? Naturally, we start dieting. This reaction is natural and also reasonable. Because over eating increases the fat in our body, resulting in obesity. We immediately skip breakfast, lunch or dinner or eat very little, more or less starve, hoping that in a few days we can lose a lot of weight. Well, this is a wrong method. Do you know you will actually find it more difficult to lose weight if you eat less?
For the past thousands of years, human body has evolved in such a way that it can adapt to starvation. Years ago there were people who managed to go through starvation, because of the lack of food. We are the off springs of these people, so even if we eat less or starve, our body can adapt to this situation. Our body needs to increase the level of energy in order to burn more calories and reduce weight. When we eat less, our body has in-built mechanism to adjust, by lowering the amount of energy level. Thus few calories are burnt. This is where eating less or starvation goes wrong. It does not help to lose weight as you assume.
The key to weight loss lies in not how much you eat, but what you eat.
It is not the amount of calories in your body that adds weight. When a comparison was done between thin people and fat people, it was found out that that there was not much of a difference in what they ate or the amount of calories in their body. The main difference was fat content in their food. The fat people ate food which contained fat and sugar, which gets stored in the body as saturated fat, thereby leading to weight gain, while the thin people ate food which contained carbohydrates which can be broken easily and used by our body.
Losing weight is not such an easy task.
It takes a lot of time, effort and patience to achieve it. You did not gain excess weight over night, so you can’t expect to lose the excess weight overnight also. You have to choose a diet plan that suits your body and stay committed to the chosen plan.
Weight loss pills are harmful:
Media, magazines and the internet are full of advertisements about weight loss pills and supplements. People all over the world are looking for that ‘magic pill’ which will help them to lose weight fast. People spend a lot of money for such pills and products. But remember, that these pills can have harmful side effects on your body, and although they might help you to lose weight now, you tend to regain weight again after some years.
Being overweight increases our risk of heart diseases, diabetes, cholesterol, cancer and even early death. When you over eat, the excess calories are stored in your body as saturated fat.
Weight loss can be achieved by a diet rich in nutrition and low in fat and also by exercising. Dieting will reduce weight which is water and muscle, if you want to reduce the fat from you body, you have to exercise. Exercising increases your metabolism and makes your body burn excess fat for energy. Walking is considered to be the key to weight loss.
